Chicago artist Gregory Gove has been creating works of art for a wide variety of environments for over 20 years. Raised in St. Louis, Mo., Gregory attended the Columbus College of Art and Design, graduating with a B.F.A. in 1990 before relocating to Chicago in 1992. Notable public art and commercial clients include Denver Light Rail System (RTD), General Motors, Miller Coors, Whirlpool, Hilton, Marriott, and The Drake Hotel, as well as the University of Chicago Children’s Hospital, Addison Public Library, and the Signature Room at the top of the Hancock Tower. He was a Curator’s Choice at the 2009 Chicago Art Open at Zhou B Art Center and was featured in Studio Visit Volume 11 in 2010. In addition to commercial and public art projects, Gregory continues to develop his personal work and has recently launched a startup clothing brand called Ox&Free.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I think of my painting process as a kind of excavation. Forms are created and evolve as they are repeatedly covered, uncovered, shaped, and carved out. Environments emerge that pulse with energy and conflict, as the “natural” world acclimates to the by-products of human life.
